It was the first Duke vs. Wake Forest game of the season, aka the Luke Kennard game for Duke. Luke lead the team that day, accounting for 34 of the 85 total points (just one shy of his career high), including the game winning shot. Duke was down by one single point, with 6.6 seconds left on the clock. Frank Jackson passed the ball to Kennard, and he hit the game winning three. The crowd went absolutely nuts, being in the midst of it was an experience I'll never forget. This was a home game for the Wake Forest Deacons, and their fans definitely brought their A game to this one. Along with a few guys on the front row wearing Duke Blue shirts that stated: "I hate Christian Laettner, JJ Redick, and Grayson Allen". They probably wish they would have added Luke Kennard's name to, with the way this game turned out. It was a nail biter for us Duke fans, if you watched this game then you know what I'm talking about. With early foul trouble for the Blue Devil's, along with lots of back and forth scoring, and a technical foul called on Wake Forest's player, Brandon Childress, it was just so crazy. To add to the craziness, there was a little altercation with WF's player, Crawford who had purposely tried to cause physical problems with our beloved player, Grayson Allen. At that point there was only about four minutes left in the game and I don't think any of us knew what to expect. When it got down to the final seconds I just kind of had a gut feeling of "they got this". They pulled of one of the craziest wins I've experienced in person (besides the Austin Rivers buzzer beater). To make the night even better, we ended up meeting Jayson Tatum after the game (story in my next post). If I could relive this night I would do it 1,000 times again. Not to mention, this was my little sister, Elizabeth's, first ever college basketball game who is only 12, but one of the biggest Duke fans I know. Experiencing that with her was so much fun. It was such a fun night and I can't wait for more to come this upcoming season. I'll definitely be returning to the home of the Deacs to cheer for my Blue Devil's.
