Coach K out, Dominican trip canceled
Sadly, as many of you have probably already heard, the Dominican Republic trip has been canceled (sad face). As far as the cancellation goes, the reports are that the team collectively chose not to go once they found out about Coach K not being able to attend. Coach K announced just the other day, that he will be undergoing his second major surgery of 2017. He has already had a successful back surgery back in January, this time around it will be a knee replacement. Hopefully all goes well, and he heals as expected. The surgery is to take place at Duke's Hospital this coming weekend. Duke's Men's Basketball twitter page posted a video of the goat himself, basically saying how he doesn't think going to the DR right now would be the smartest decision for his health, and that he wants to go ahead with the surgery. He also stated the team (he refers to as "youngster's") has been giving him their all at these last few practices, and he wants to be able to do the same for them. Of course I'm bummed about the Dominican trip, BUT, I would rather have Coach at his best in the actual season, than him being out when he's needed most (kind of like last year). He is expected to return at the end of September to help finish gearing up for the season. As a fan I respect whatever he and the team decide, and wish the absolute best for Coach K's healing.
On a side note, Jon Rothstein reassured us all via twitter, of only 13 more weeks till college basketball!! Sounds like forever, but I couldn't be more excited. Also, Tre Jones (Tyus Jones's little brother) will be announcing his college decision on Sunday.. so that's something to look forward to as well. My prediciton is obviously Duke, but anything can happen! Hope you all have a great weekend! Prayers up for Coach K.
