Duke Nation, Welcome Marvin Bagley III!
Marvin Bagley III... what a day yesterday for the Duke fans across the nation. As many of you know already, Marvin Bagley III has reclassified and will attend Duke University this year. There are many factors to why we (Duke fan's) love him so much already. He is the best high school prospect IN THE WORLD, at 6'11", 220 pounds. The 18 year old, out of Sierra Canyon high school, in Chatsworth, CA, has already been showing his raw talent in the Drew League this summer (dunking on current NBA players). Not to mention he is a Justise Winslow look alike (only bigger), and he is definitely setting himself up to be the number one pick of the 2018 NBA Draft. Marvin is just the 10th player in "247sports" history to receive a .9999 rating, joining the likes of players like Lebron James, Dwight Howard, and Anthony Davis. His smooth lefty scoring abilities are getting compared to Chris Bosh, but his overall skill set is more relatable to NBA superstar Anthony Davis. Aside from that, experts are saying Bagley is once in a decade type of talent, and the most exciting player to come out of high school since Lebron James. I know we usually hear these comparisons about many players who never live up to it, but if you look at Bagley's size, overall talent, position-less playing ability, you've got to think that he has a very high chance to live up to the hype/praise he is receiving. Oh and Duke legend Danny Ferry, agreed with Coach K to let Bagley wear Ferry's retired number 35 next season, which has never happened before.
Bagley is set to arrive to campus next week. One of the most exciting aspects of MB3 joining the team this year, is the fact that he's joining an already loaded Duke recruiting class. And furthermore, a Duke team that without Bagley, still would be in top contention for a National Title. A true floor general capable of running the team in Trevon Duval, a fully healthy senior Grayson Allen, scrappy two way 5 star SG Gary Trent Jr, and a very well rounded 5 star PF Wendell Carter Jr.. And of course, Duke also has 6' 11" Marques Bolden returning (who's rumored to be looking outstanding lately) along with Javin Delaurier, Antonio Vrankovic, Jack White, Jordan Tucker, Jordan Goldwire, and Alex O'Connell. I could talk about this roster for days, but you get the point. Adding Marvin Bagley III (who averaged 25 and 10 as a junior last season) to this roster? You can certainly see what all the excitement is about. Am I dreaming? It feels like it considering Duke's upcoming season will feature a true point guard, experience and talent on the wings, and plenty of size down low. Vegas also recognized this, as Duke's odds to win a title immediately went up to a strong 3:1. While many will tell you to temper your expectations for the upcoming year because of what happened last year, I say be as excited as you could possibly want to be. It's a new team, new season, and quite possibly the greatest recruiting class of all time. Coach K (The Goat) isn't settling for 2nd place, and as long as the players buy what himself and his staff is selling, then Duke is set up extremely well to hang banner number six in Cameron. So get ready Duke gang, because this season is going to be one to remember. Only 12 more weeks to go!!
